Bowls, feeders and storage

Check capacity, cleaning access and compatibility with the food you already use.

Compare capacity with your actual feeding routine. For an automatic feeder, check whether it supports the food’s shape and size, its portion settings and its power requirements. Do not assume every dry-food feeder works with every kibble or that it can hold wet food.

Look at how the bowl and internal parts are cleaned. If parts are listed as dishwasher safe, confirm exactly which components that includes. For water fountains, factor in replacement filters and access to the pump when comparing the ongoing cost and cleaning effort.

For food storage, follow the food manufacturer’s instructions and retain the label and lot details. Test an automated device while you are home before depending on it. A device’s settings are not a substitute for checking that your pet is receiving food and water as intended.
