Measure before you choose
Leashes, collars and harnesses
Use actual measurements and the manufacturer’s sizing guide to find walking gear that fits.
Measure the areas requested by the manufacturer, commonly the neck and chest, and compare them with that product’s own size chart. Sizes vary by brand. Keep your latest measurements in the pet profile and remeasure growing pets before ordering replacement gear.
Consider the purpose of the equipment: an everyday walk, a training session or a replacement ID collar. Read the fastening and adjustment instructions. Product descriptions should explain the intended use, but a marketing claim alone does not establish that equipment fits your pet safely.
Inspect buckles, stitching and leash attachments regularly and check the fit before going out. A collar or harness is not automatically a vehicle restraint. If you need car equipment, look for the manufacturer’s specific vehicle-use instructions rather than repurposing walking gear.
